Canary Islands

October 19, 2016
The Canary Islands are located about 1000 kilometers south of Spain, and only 115 kilometers from the African coast. The average temperature on the Canary Islands is 22 degrees Celsius on the coasts, and there are no significant differences in the temperatures between night and day. In winter, it is rarely colder than 19 degrees Celsius. During the summer months is almost never more than 25 degrees on the Canary Islands: Compare with the Spanish mainland where the temperatures in summer approaches 40 degrees Celsius. That makes the Canary Islands a perfect holiday destination in summer even if most of us only has the Canary Islands in mind as a winter destination.
Canary Islands

The Canary Islands are already a classic holiday destination for Britons, Germans, Scandinavians and other Europeans, but the truth is that even the Spaniards travels a lot to the warm and sunny Canary Islands. For years the Canary Islands have been the classic honeymoon destination for just married Spanish couples. That until Asia and the Caribbean became popular and affordable destinations from Spain just a few years ago.
Although there are many Spaniards living on the Happy Islands. That is the name that the Canary Islands receives in Spain.
Those who travel once to the Canary Islands and then believe that they know everything about Spain are quite wrong: For most Spaniards the Canary Islands are just as exotic as to other foreigners.

Around 8 million tourists travels to the beautiful Canary Islands every year. The fact that almost half of them already have visited the Canary Islands earlier means al lot, if you once visit the islands you always want to return! The tropical climate on the Canary Islands and the 150 kilometers of sunny coasts and beaches must have something to do with that.

The Canary Islands are something like an European version of the popular Caribbean holiday destinations: The music, the accent, the people's attitude, the lifestyle, the climate, the famous carnival and so much more resembles more the life in Caribbean countries than in other places in
Spain.
The Canaries is the only Ultra-Peripheral Region of Spain. It offers its visitors a land of contrasts and an area of cultural encounters. A wide and dynamic range of leisure, culture, sport and conference facilities is also available. The official currency is the Euro. The Canarian archipelago lies about 100 kilometers off the western African coast. It consists of seven islands: Lanzarote, Fuerteventura, Gran Canaria, Tenerife, La Gomera, La Palma and El Hierro.

The Canary Islands are volcanic in origin. The Canaries is part of the natural region of Macaronesia, along with the archipelagoes of Cape Verde, the Azores, Madeira and Salvajes. The status of capital city is shared by Las Palmas de Gran Canaria and Santa Cruz de Tenerife. There is a modern and efficient network of travel infrastructures on the islands: Eight airports (six of them international airports), many commercial and recreational ports and an extensive network of roads. The Canaries receives more than 10 million tourists annually. The climate is typical of subtropical ocean regions, with warm temperatures all year round. The average yearly temperature is over 20 degrees centigrade. This enviable climate means the archipelago enjoys great biological diversity and remarkable richness in terms of landscape.
Local food on tha Canaries is very varied and tasty. One of its most distinctive ingredients is gofio, that is, roasted maize meal, which is used in a variety of recipes and prepared in different ways. Also worthy of interest are the local small salted “wrinkly” potatoes, cooked in their skins (papas arrugadas), the spicy sauce (mojo picón), the Canarian stew, made with salted fish and yam (sancocho), the watercress-based thick soup (potaje de berros), the vegetable, chickpea and meat stew (puchero), another traditional stew made with meat and pasta (rancho), and finally ropa vieja, a mixture of chickpeas, potatoes, meat and vegetables in a delicious sauce.

Bermuda

Bermuda

If island destination is what you are looking for, perhaps you need to look no further than this nature's jewel. Bermuda is a cluster of islands on the north Atlantic with a total area of about 21 square miles. Several islands are joined to the main island with bridges. Being a sub tropical island, the weather is pleasantly warm for most time of the year (April to November) and people are even warmer.
There are many stunning beaches in the island and some with lovely pink sandy beaches. Snorkeling is excellent from several beaches while nearby reefs offer views of amazing corals and marine life. And there are lovely caves with awesome limestone formations and natural lakes, aquarium, numerous historical sites, museums, churches, historical forts and even nature reserves and parks.
One of the most popular and photographed of Bermuda’s pink-sand beaches is Horseshoe Bay Beach, which is bordered by rocky areas great for snorkeling. A lifeguard is on duty here from May to September, making this a good choice for families. Tiny Jobson’s Bay Beach is surrounded by jagged, picturesque rocks. Warwick Long Bay boasts Bermuda’s longest stretch of sand, and at West Whale Bay Beach you can see humpback whales in April as they migrate north. If you’re in search of seclusion, head to Astwood Cove.

Bermuda Hotels and Resorts
You’ll find a few different types of accommodations in Bermuda: B&Bs; efficiency units, including cottages, suites and apartments that come with kitchen facilities and are good options for families; small hotels; and resorts that offer fine restaurants, spas, pools and more. Another more unusual option is Bermuda’s collection of cottage colonies, a series of cottages with a central clubhouse for socializing, drinking and dining, plus a pool or beach. Luxury accommodations abound; finding bargains is more of a challenge.
Bermuda Restaurants and Cuisine
The most famous local dish is fish chowder served with a splash of Sherry Pepper sauce. Other traditional dishes include Peas and Plenty (black-eyed peas with onions, salt pork and rice) and Hoppin’ John, another pea and rice dish, which should not be confused with Johnny Bread, which is pan-cooked cornmeal bread. However, you also can find restaurants serving everything from curries to pasta. In addition to restaurants in resort hotels, there are large concentrations of eateries in Hamilton and St. George Town. Wash meals down with a Dark and Stormy, a mix of ginger beer and local Gosling's rum.
Bermuda Culture and History
Settled by the English in 1609, Bermuda became a self-governing colony in 1620. West Indian indentured servants, then slaves from Africa, later arrived. Slavery was abolished in 1834. After the American Revolution, the Royal Navy built a dockyard in Bermuda to guard its Atlantic shipping lanes. In the early twentieth century, Bermuda became a popular destination for rich tourists. Bermuda’s British heritage is found in its architecture; African influences are mainfest in dance and music, especially the Gombeys dancing and drumming troupes.
Bermuda Nightlife
As a general rule, nightlife is not big on Bermuda. Since rental cars are not allowed on the island, many visitors prefer to hang out in their hotel lounges and bars rather than travel via scooter (or take an expensive taxi) at night. However, Hamilton has a number of fun bars, including Hubie’s, which showcases local musical talent. The island also is known for its collection of authentic English pubs, such as the Frog and Onion, Henry VIII, and the George and Dragon.
Although the island is tiny, it offers numerous water and land based activities. You have choices like golfing in some of the word's best courses, horseback riding, kayaking, snorkeling, jet skiing, parasailing, paddle boarding, fishing and lot more. It's a paradise for scuba divers to explore shipwrecks around.

And there are many operators who offer guided tours - both land based and boating tours. Such tours operate both on groups (on per person rates) as well as on private charters.

Hamilton City located centrally is the capital of Bermuda. St. George at the eastern end and close to the airport is a UNESCO World Heritage Site steeped with history. And Royal Naval Dockyard at the west end is the main cruise port. Most shops, restaurants and bars are located at these places.

Bermuda never looks crowded. There are no billboards or neon signs, and relatively few cars to spoil the wonderful countryside. The houses with gabled limestone roofs and pastel colors fit in beautifully into Bermuda's landscape. You can get around the island using air-conditioned public buses and ferries. Privately operated taxis and minibuses are also popular transports in the island.

Ethiopia has four main geographic regions from west to east namely as the Ethiopian Plateau, the Great Rift Valley, the Ogaden Plateau and the Somali Plateau. The Ethiopian Plateau is fringed in the west by the Sudan lowlands , including half of the country. It is generally 1,524 to1,829 m high but reaches much loftier heights, including Ras Dashen (4,620 m) which is the highest point in Ethiopia. The plateau slopes gently from east to west and is being cut by numerous deep valleys. The Blue Nile which in Ethiopia is called the Abbai or Abbay, flows through the center of the plateau from its source, Lake Tana which is Ethiopia's largest lake.
The Great Rift Valley ,which entirety runs from southwest Asia to eastern central Africa traverses the country from northeast to southwest and contains the Danakil Desert in the north and several large lakes in the south of the ountry. The Somali Plateau is generally not as high as the Ethiopian Plateau, but in the Mendebo Mts. it attains heights of more than 4,267 m. The Awash is Ethiopia's only navigable river and it drains the central part of the plateau. The Ogaden Plateau (457 to914 m high) is mostly desert it self but it does includes the Webe Shebele, Genale (Jubba), and Dawa rivers.
Ethiopia's population is mainly rural as most people in highlands above 1,800 m. Almost half of the people are Muslims, while over a third belong to the Ethiopian Orthodox Church; about 12% practice traditional religions. There are a great number of distinct ethnic groups in Ethiopia. The Amhara and Tigreyans, who together make up about a third of the population, live mostly in the central and N Ethiopian Plateau; they are Christian and hold most of the higher positions in the government. The Oromo, who make up about 40% of the country's people, live in S Ethiopia and are predominantly Muslim. The pastoral Somali, who are also Muslim, live in E and SE Ethiopia.
Until the 1980s a small group of Jews, known as Beta Israel or Falashas, lived north of Lake Tana in Gondar. In the midst of famine and political instability, 10,000 Ethiopian Jews were airlifted (1984–85) to Israel, and another 14,000 were airlifted out in 1991. By the end of 1999 virtually all the Falashas who were practicing Jews had been flown to Israel.
Amharic is the country's official language, but a great many other languages are spoken, including Tigrinya, Oromo, Somali, and Arabic. A substantial number of Ethiopians speak English, which is commonly taught in school. The natural beauty of Ethiopia does amaze the visitor at the first glance. The land of rugged mountains, broad savannah, lakes and rivers. The unique Rift Valley is a remarkable region of volcanic lakes along with their famous collections of birdlife, great escarpments and stunning vistas.

Tisisat, the Blue Nile falls, is ranked as one of the greatest natural spectacles in Africa even today. With 14 major wildlife reserves, Ethiopia provides a mini view of the whole Sahara ecosystem. Birdlife abounds, and indigenous animals from the rare Walia Ibex to the shy wild ass, roam free just as nature intends them to. Ethiopia, after the rains, is a land decked with flowers and with many more native plants than most countries in Africa. Among the many natural tourist attractions only the principal ones are briefly given below.
